The RIM BVI team and biographies:
James Maltin – Chief Investment Officer
James has been managing capital for more than 20 years. He began his City career at HSBC Investment Bank, then spent a decade at Rathbones before establishing Ridgeway Investment Management in 2017 and more recently RIM BVI. James is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds their Diploma in Investment Management. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology from the University of Durham, a Masters degree in Finance from the London Business School, and is a graduate of the Value Investing program at Columbia Business School.
Prior to establishing RIM BVI, he cycled 6,500 miles around Europe, being one of four cyclists to ride the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana in the same year, raising funds to support the blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia, of which he is a patron. In a personal capacity, James is a Director of the Syncona Foundation and the DIDACT Foundation, both of which strive to cure cancer, and sits on the investment committee of the Institute of Cancer Research.
Mark Lynam – Investment Manager
Mark, founder of icf, has been managing institutional and private family office portfolios for over 30 years. During his career, Mark has held senior investment roles at Dresdner RCM Global Investors, SandAire multi-client family office, and Witan Investment Trust Plc, a c.£2 billion global equity investment fund where Mark was Chief Investment Officer.
In a personal capacity, Mark chairs several investment committees and is investment adviser to the UK based charity the St John Ambulance IAG (Investment Advisory Group). Mark enjoys playing golf and club tennis and is a keen rugby follower supporting the Wales rugby team.
Dan Reid – Managing Director
Dan has 17 years’ experience in financial markets covering multiple asset classes. Prior to joining RIM BVI, Dan worked for Rathbone Brothers Plc in the City of London and successfully launched the international discretionary investment management proposition and offshore fund business in Luxembourg.
Dan has also held senior positions working for RWC Partners (a boutique investment manager) and AXA Investment Managers. At RWC Partners Dan covered both equity and fixed income long only and long/short funds, offering both onshore and offshore services in the Cayman Islands. Prior to that at AXA Investment Managers Dan managed a number of onshore and offshore pension fund clients and sovereign wealth fund clients.
Katie McSwiney – Operational Support
Having worked in financial and legal services for over five years, Katie brings experience in operational support and investment compliance. Katie managed the office at Ridgeway Investment Management for three years prior to working on an investment compliance project for Morgan Stanley, where she investigated breaches of applicable laws, regulations and guidelines across EMEA. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and is qualified in Combating Financial Crime. Katie also has a CertHE in Computer Science and is currently reading Law in her spare time.
Sherri Ortiz – Money Laundering Reporting Officer
Sherri Ortiz-Fahie is the CEO of Sterling Compliance Limited. She has more than 30 years’ capability in financial services and a wealth of experience in regulatory compliance matters. Her most recent work was undertaken in Hong Kong as the Executive Director of BVI House Asia for the promotion of BVI financial services to China and the wider Asia Pacific Rim.
Sherri is the former Executive Director of the BVI International Finance Centre (now known as BVI Finance). She also served as a Consultant to the Turks and Caicos Financial Services Commission in the revitalization of TCI’s financial services industry.
Sherri is approved as a ‘fit and proper’ person by the BVI Financial Services Commission and is recognised as a Resident Director for BVI licensed entities and funds. She has represented the BVI as a Lead Negotiator and is a regular speaker at international conferences and events.
Sheri is well traveled and known to major international industry participants in the financial markets of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Dubai, India, Switzerland, London, and the United States.
Sherri holds a bachelor’s degree in Financial Management, a Diploma of Compliance from the International Compliance Association, UK, and has a background in legal studies within the UK. She is a Professional Member of the ICA, the Association of Certified Fraud Experts (ACFE), the Association of Certified Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS), and is a qualified and recognised Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer for a number of licensed entities in the BVI.
